Most curtain wall problems start at the junctions: the base, the slab edge, the head and the connection to the rest of the envelope. This page explains the standard details of stick and unitised curtain walling in the Aluprof, Schüco and Procural systems we fabricate.

For your project we prepare section drawings and elevations in DWG and PDF as part of the quotation and shop drawing process.

Mullion and transom section

In a stick curtain wall such as Aluprof MB-SR50N or Schüco FWS 50, vertical mullions carry the loads to the building, and transoms span between them. Glass is held by pressure plates and cover caps, with drained and ventilated rebates that lead water out at each transom.

Visible face widths are 50 or 60 mm; deeper mullions are chosen for longer spans and higher wind loads. High insulation variants such as MB-SR50N HI+ reach Uf from 0.59 W/(m²K).

Base, head and slab edge details

At the base the curtain wall sits on a sill profile with a waterproof membrane lapped to the substrate and a drained cavity. At the head, a movement joint takes up slab deflection. At each floor the slab edge detail combines the fixing brackets, fire stopping between facade and slab, and the insulated spandrel or shadow box.

Corners, roof connections and openings

External and internal corners use dedicated corner mullions or angled transoms. Opening vents, doors and smoke vents are integrated into the grid with insert frames, and glass roofs such as MB-SR50N EI connect to the vertical facade with transition profiles.

Unitised curtain wall details

In unitised systems such as Aluprof MB-SE65 and Schüco AF UDC 80, elements are assembled and glazed in the factory. The key details are the stack joint between floors, the interlocking vertical joint and the anchor brackets on the slab, which allow fast installation from the floor plates.

Curtain wall details: common questions

Can I get DWG details of your curtain wall systems?

Yes. We supply system sections for early design and project-specific DWG and PDF drawings once we know the elevations, loads and interfaces. Send us your drawings and we will reply within 1–2 working days.

What is the difference between stick and unitised curtain walling?

Stick systems are assembled on site from mullions and transoms. Unitised systems arrive as factory-glazed elements that are hung floor by floor, which is faster on high-rise and repetitive facades.

How is fire stopping handled at the slab edge?

A fire stopping layer closes the gap between the curtain wall and the slab edge, combined with the spandrel construction. Where a fire rated facade is required, systems such as MB-SR50N EI reach EI30 and EI60.

Need details for your project?

Send elevations and sections of your facade and we will propose a system and supply drawings with the quote.
